 Ben Bates  Ben Bates

Ben studied Sculpture at Wolverhampton College of Art.He had a career in teaching and exhibited his own work as a member of the Red Rose Guild and North West Craftsmen throughout the 1970's and 80's.He took early retirement and moved to Powys to pursue other projects but has recently begun making again after a lengthy "thinking gap" He was originally converted to ceramics through teaching children and employs a variety of hand-building techniques to explore the possibilities of texture, shape and glaze. He finds the Raku method a technique which "offers elation and despair in equal proportions" saying that he doesn't regard himself as a potter but rather a maker of things in clay- and in that case the GALLERY looks forward to joining in his recent exploration and showing the beautiful results without categorisation!

Carol Peever

Carol was originally from Ironbridge in Shropshire and studied for a degree in ceramics at Wolverhampton. Her techniques have evolved through the use of plaster moulds and cut rolled slabs. The designs are carved into the leather hard clay and the lines filled with powdered oxides. She then applies layers of low temperature glazes and smoke fires to achieve an aged crackled appearance. The results are a unique blend of exotic shapes with lustre glazed highlights.
