With a quack quack here and a moo moo there..., the GALLERY's latest exhibition "Eee-i-ee-i-oh!" starts on 27th June for a month. I will have some very talented artists and makers on display so I hope you can find time to pop along and have a look. |
| The Gallery had an encouraging and supportive attendance at the Private View on the 17th April for our debut exhibition. The exhibition showcases the work of Jim Tucker, a Collage Artist who uses and recycles found materials-and also showing the work of Carrie May a recent RCA graduate from Dymock who’s collaged paperworks and Mobiles were a contrasting yet co-ordinating addition to Jim’s work which incorporates wood, metal and other salvaged materials. The Artists attended the Private View and were on hand to discuss their work with the many interested collectors-both Artists also sold several pieces, so I am encouraged to believe that the Gallery has shown original and interesting work which local buyers are happy to support. The exhibition continues alongside the full range of contemporary Arts and Crafts stocked in the Gallery until 17th May. I hope that the forthcoming themes (see the exhibition page for details) will inspire and encourage local Artists and makers to visit the Gallery to discuss their work with me with a view to showing in a collective exhibition or a one-man show?!-I am friendly, interested in many types of Art and Craft, encouraging, positively critical, helpful and I don't bite! Previously "Bishop's Gallery" for 7 years-now relaunched as "the GALLERY at Bishop's Castle" under new ownership. New proprietor Jacs Collins has recently moved to Shropshire from Surrey where she had a 20yrs+ career as an Interior Designer mostly working for Developers designing Showhomes and with private clients in Central London and the home counties. Jacs has a degree in Textile Design from Winchester School of Art and is also a painter and designer who has exhibited her own work in Open Studio exhibitions for the past 10 years. When she decided to try a change of pace and enjoy a more rural lifestyle the opportunity to run a Gallery seemed too good to miss as it will hopefully combine all of her experience and skills. She intends to follow the previously very successful format of showing and stocking as many local Artists and crafts makers as possible and has already met several-but would like to invite anyone who would like to show their work amongst the very best of Contemporary Arts and Crafts to contact her (click on the contact us button to email Jacs) She is determined to reserve permanent space in the Gallery for original Artworks and 2008 themed Exhibitions will include- "Home Sweet Home” Exhibition of all things with a Family/Home and Domestic theme Knitting/Sewing/Felting-Tablewares/Lighting-Artworks on the subject of Family+Home and other home furnishings feature. “Sheepish” Art and Craft made about and from our woolly neighbours! “Reading The Pictures” A show to bring out the child inside us all-Jacs is hoping to encourage kids of all ages to show their work “BodyLines” A celebration of the human form and figure in as many mediums and materials as possible. “Into the Woods” the Fire and Iron Crafts- and Art made from and about trees “All white Now” Christmas Frost and Sparkle There will also be time for further one man(or woman!)shows and spotlight on various crafts-Jewellery or furniture for example Finally-Jacs has already included a small range of home furnishing accessories-called "Inside Knowledge" and wants to hear from anyone interested in Interior Design workshops or informal "teach-ins" as an introduction to the basics of Interior Design. She is also showing and selling a few items of collectable Vintage retro/"mid century modern"furniture and Studio ceramics.
