the GALLERY held a successful exhibition at Galleries Live,27 Pride Hill, Shrewsbury during November
Visual Arts Network-a charitable trust in collaboration with the Made in Shropshire group has secured a 6 months lease on this Shrewsbury town centre venue and created "Galleries Live" a fantastic exhibition space in the heart of the main shopping area of Shrewsbury.
theGALLERY was invited to install an exhibition including a selection of the Artists and Contemporary Craft Makers represented in theGALLERY's permanent space in Bishop's Castle.
We came up with an interior design/room set show entitled "Inside Knowledge" which demonstrates the stylish mix of classic vintage furniture with contemporary Arts and Craft that you can always find at theGALLERY in Bishop's Castle. The exhibition included a 1960's "G Plan" cabinet and a classic Studio Couch designed in the heyday of "Ercol" popularity by the company's founder Lucian Ercolani. As all followers of fashion will know-Retro furniture is the new collecting craze. Furniture from the 50's and 60's is cool again and in that era of blow-up furniture and Norwegian Wood- G Plan and Ercol were great examples of modern and practical British design and manufacture-not Avant Garde or cutting edge but more typical of what people actually lived with.
Complimenting this celebration of great British Design and Manufacture of 50 years ago we showed some of the great British Artists and Designer/Makers working now.......... and what's more working locally!
The show featured the work of the following contemporary Artists and Makers and theGALLERY would like to thank every one of them for their help and encouragement in putting the exhibition together

The GALLERY hosted a LOVER-LY evening on 12th February-It was an intentionally “girlie” event and we tried Jewellery, Handbags, Scarves and Heart shaped accessories of all kinds including handmade Valentine Cards by Beccy Griffiths. For a further touch of luxury and sheer indulgence, Dore Valley handmade chocolates left a warm glow after a tasting of their Hot Chocolate. It was a chance to meet jewellery makers Marian Watson and Anne Reeves of Grace Designs and Textile designers Meg Arrol and Daphne Bursell also attended with their very popular silk velvet scarves and felted handbags. The guys didn’t need to feel too left out-A “wish” book was started so that ladies could list their favourite items just in case a romantic partner needed some clues-(or heavy hints) for Valentine Gifts! This book has been left open for Birthdays, Anniversaries, get-out-of-the-doghouse-free-gifts, and any other occasion when inspiration required to know what they really really want. Finally -the Valentine invitation was also “Lucky-in-Love”………a prize draw for a cuddly soft felted Heart Cushion was won by Elizabeth Ronan. |
