Thelma studied illustration at Laird School of Art, Birkenhead. Her first career was as an illustrator with the Associated Freelance Artists in London.

After having a family she later studied at Glasgow School of Art to graduate with a degree in Fine Art (Drawing and Painting) She also subsequently worked as an Art teacher in Scotland and Cheshire.

A regular exhibitor throughout the UK, she has her paintings in the permanent collection of the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum (Merseyside Tate Gallery Group) and was a purchase prize winner in 1988,1998 and 2001.Her work has been accepted by the Royal Academy, New English Art Club, Society of Women Artists (London+ Scotland), Birmingham Society of Artists, Royal Glasgow Institute, and MoMA Wales amongst others-as well as a wide selection of galleries in Wales, Scotland and Shropshire.

She describes her work as covering a vast range of subject matter from figurative to abstract and semi-abstract landscape-often a combination of both using literary sources as well as poetry and music. She works from memories, observation and imagination, often returning to earlier themes and sketchbook references with a new and different approach.

It is evident that she is still much influenced by her years of living in Scotland and brings something of the tradition of the Scottish Colourists to her current view of local landscapes.

  Pauline Bradley
Pauline Bradley

Pauline's work is inspired by the human form and articulation of the body's shape to express and represent a range of inner moods and emotions. She likes to place the figure in a landscape or contrasted with the textures of nature such as bark, rocks, and plants. Recent work has evolved from observing shadow or water reflections running across areas of the body-obscuring or highlighting and giving the effect of integration with the landscape or a decoration of the body's surface. She usually combines several printmaking techniques in each work - particularly Japanese style woodblock on silk papers with collograph. Since 2006, when she exhibited as part of the UK/Japan Artists group, she has visited and exhibited in Japan several times.

Judith was born in Belfast and brought up in Cheshire. She studied Art at the Bedford Froebel Collage and subsequently taught at various schools.

On her marriage she moved to North Essex and after raising four children

she resumed her career in Rutland when she opened and managed the Uppingham Gallery-which was the forerunner of the renowned Goldmark Gallery.

In 1989 she moved to Shropshire to concentrate on her own painting and continues to share her experience and skills by teaching part time.

Judith grew up in a family of artists-both her parents were good amateur painters and took her to exhibitions from an early age. An early inspiration were the restrained landscapes of John Sell Cotman and, being brought up during WWII-she was also very influenced by the generation of artists recording the English experience during that time, such as Sutherland and Piper, and particularly the watercolourists; Ravillious, Bawden, John and Paul Nash. Her admiration for the “English” colour palette and the sense of place and light celebrated by their circle has distilled in her own work and she now works in acrylic on paper or canvas in a sensitive “naïve” yet mature style.

She enjoys travelling around her local towns and villages so that Welsh and English landscapes, coastal scenes and still life subjects can be carefully “collected”-captured by her experienced and skilful eye.

She has exhibited widely in East Anglia, the Midlands and more recently in Wales and Shropshire in both group and solo exhibitions
